Green in Action Banner

To Hoffman Estates, "Green in Action" means residents and businesses utilizing programs and performing activities that improve our living, working, and community environments.  Many simple tasks and inexpensive changes can lead to substantial savings in energy, materials, and very often, savings in a bank account.  Eco-opportunities can be found just about anywhere!

  • Hoffman Estates Commissions at Work
As a part of the Village’s “Growing to Greenness” strategy, the Mayor and the Village Board of Trustees have appointed resident volunteers to the Green Initiatives Commission and the Environmental Commission. These two commissions are directly involved in making the Village an environmentally sound and sustainable place to live.

    Green Initiatives Commission
The Green Initiatives Commission is comprised of seven volunteer residents of Hoffman Estates and is chaired by Trustee Anna Newell. Commission members are leaders in Hoffman Estates' mission to become a ‘green’ community, and they suggest programs, services, and activities that Village residents, businesses, and the municipality can participate in all year round. The Green Initatives Commission helps raise awareness for programs serving community residents aspiring to "greenness" and make recommendations regarding these issues to the Village Board of Trustees.

    Environmental Commission
The Environmental Commission is chaired by Robert Podgorski and membership is comprised of nine volunteer Hoffman Estates residents. The Environmental Commission concentrates on improving the environmental quality of the Village. They encourage research, investigation, and studies relating to control and prevention of various environmental pollutions as they may relate to the Village. The Commission monitors the Village waste stream to preserve limited natural resources, including the Village's recycling and composting program. If you would like more information or are interested in volunteering on one of these two commissions, please contact our Boards & Commission Representative at (847)781-2606. Click HERE for a PDF application to serve as a volunteer Commission member.
