As of July, 2010 passport processing on a routine basis takes approximately four to six weeks to obtain (with proper documentation). Please bring the following with you:
- A completed application (unsigned). If your application is signed when you arrive, you will be asked to start over. Complete using blue or black ink only.
- An original or certified copy of your birth certificate from the county or state where you were born – NOT the one from the hospital. If you are a naturalized citizen, you must bring your original certificate of naturalization. Note: we cannot make copies of these documents.
- Your current or expired passport if you are renewing.
- Proof of identity: current driver's license or state ID (we will copy for you).
- Your Social Security card (if possible).
- Two passport photos with a white or light background (we do not process photos).
- Passport fees (as of 7/13/10) are $110 for adults and $80 for children 15 years of age and under, and must be paid in the form of a check or money order to the U.S. Department of State. In addition, there is a $25 acceptance fee per application payable by cash, check, or charge to the Village of Hoffman Estates (you will pay this fee at any acceptance facility).
- Passport Cards are available for land and sea travel to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. Applicants will pay $30 for adult cards and $15 for children. A $25 acceptance fee applies.
If you plan to expedite the total additional fee is $74.96 (to the US Dept of State) which includes return overnight postage. Postage fee for outbound overnight mailing will be handled at time of application. You are not required to provide any supplies for overnight outbound mailing. As of July, 2010 expedited processing takes approximately two to three weeks (with proper documentation).
Minor children regardless of age, must be present. For children ages 15 and under, both parents must be present. 16 & 17 year old applicants must have one parent present.
